Lisa Starr, Bread and Poetry 2008Lisa Silverberg Starr moved to Block Island in the summer of 1986 and resolved never to leave. A two-time recipient of the Rhode Island fellowship for poetry, a former college instructor, paralegal, freelance writer and publicist, Starr was recently named Poet Laureate for the state of Rhode Island. In that capacity, she has been busy teaching in schools and elderly living facilities around the state.

Starr has published two full-length collections of poetry: “Days of Dogs and Driftwood”(1993) and “This Place Here” (2001). Her poetry has appeared in journals and publications around the country. Her third collection, “Mad With Yellow,” will be available in early 2009. Starr is the founder and director of the Block Island Poetry Project, a nationally acclaimed writing series. With her husband, Champlin, their two children, Orrin and Millie, and Brother, the dog they all adore, Starr owns and operates an inn, Hygeia House. When time permits, she writes her heart out.
